Wonderful grounds with nice porch to sit and eat lunch on. Many outdoor sculpture to see before even entering the museum. Well air conditioned. Many works of art to see , mostly modern post 1980s but also some older works . Includes paintings, mixed media, sculpture, furniture, clocks, jewelry, silver, and stained glass. Wonderful gift shop with reasonable prices and friendly staff.
What a lovely little museum! First, a wonderful collection of sculpture in a walkable trail outside the museum. The museum is situated on a beautiful Estate with mature trees and rolling hills. The building itself is an old mansion transformed into a museum of art with small galleries with older art painted by local artists of past centuries and larger galleries with more modern works from artists nearby and including a huge gallery space with a balcony loft. The museum features new works and collections that are put on display for short periods of time, so there is always something different to see. There is also a wonderful museum gift shop featuring work from local artists and craftsmen.
The museum accepts credit cards.

Free on Sundays. They have a nice-sized parking lot.
There are sculptures outside surrounding the museum. Inside, there’s the ticket counter and a small museum gift shop behind it.
The museum focuses on artists of Philadelphia which is a neat concept. There’s some great art to be found here. They also have a small room for works by children.
I attended the Jazz-maica Bob Marley with a twist; it was tribute to some of Bob Marley’s set to jazz performed by The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble. Their summer concert series is held on the front lawn, weather permitting. It was a mature crowd, bring blankets and or lawn chairs, snacks, bug spray and a good attitude and sit back and enjoy the music.
Can't say enough about this place! The current featured juried art show was incredible! As was of course the permanent display. A wide range of modern art and the museum even features some furniture original to the house and an outdoor sculpture garden. Definitely check this place out and give yourself enough time because Morris Arboretum is right next door. Both destinations participate in the PA ACCESS program which provide free or low cost tickets to those with an active EBT or Access card.
My visit to Woodmere Art Museum was amazing. Each and every piece of art on display is from a Philadelphia based artist, which gives it that special edge and extra authenticity.
There were pieces and exhibitions representing the many facets of Philadelphia, and pieces ranging from abstract sculptures, watercolour, acrylic paintings, charcoal drawings… Each with its on unique story.
The Art Museum was originally the home of the founder Charles Knox Smith, and even after its numerous expansions and extensions, the original house still remains (with some of its furniture e.g. a gorgeous chandelier) and houses most of the more historic art pieces.
Very well done art museum in the sense they utilized the space perfectly to maximize exhibition space, give you a modern art feel in some rooms, while also giving you tastes of this historic mansion and how it once looked in its time of occupancy. Great grounds and statues as well.
It also exhibits a diverse collection especially in terms of the timeframes. All art is related to Philadelphia and the area so you will see art from the 1700s-current year.
